Aikido is a modern non-violent martial art. It is based on fostering harmony with self, others and the world at large. The term, Aikido, is composed of three Japanese words, ai (love or harmony), ki (energy or spirit) and do (path or way). It is translated in many ways, including "The Art of Peace" and "The Way of Harmony with Life-Energy".
Our goal is to provide a mutually supportive, non-competitive and safe environment for kids to practice Aikido. Students will learn to move fluidly with a partner, to apply the principles of discipline and harmony in adverse situations, to fall safely, and to relax under pressure. The class will integrate Aiki games, rolling/falling and partner practice.
Kids' classes at Heart of San Francisco Aikido are open to all kids ages 7-14 years. Parents are welcome to watch the children's classes.
Clothing
Please wear loose fitting pants and t-shirts (no shorts). The gi is a traditional white training uniform. We suggest that you do not purchase a gi right away; wait until you know that your child is interested in pursuing Aikido before you consider buying a gi. When you do buy a gi, purchase either a Karate or Judo gi; Most children prefer the Karate gi, because it is lighter.
